How to Add Games to R36S 2026: Step-by-Step Guide
Adding games to the R36S takes 5 minutes. You copy ROM files to the correct folder on the MicroSD card. That's it. This is the complete iGC guide — folder structure, file formats, and tips for every system.
Connect R36S to your computer
Use the USB-C cable that came with your R36S. Connect it to your computer. The R36S will appear as a USB storage device (like a USB drive). On Windows, it will show up in File Explorer. On Mac, it will appear on the Desktop or in Finder.
Open the MicroSD card in File Explorer / Finder
You will see the MicroSD card storage. Open it. You will see a folder called ROMS (or similar). This is where all games are stored. Open the ROMS folder.
Find the correct system folder
Inside the ROMS folder, you will see subfolders for each system: GBA, SNES, PS1, N64, etc. Each system has its own folder. See the full folder list below.
Copy your ROM files into the correct folder
Drag and drop your ROM files into the correct system folder. For example: GBA games (.gba files) go into the GBA folder. PS1 games (.bin + .cue files) go into the PS1 folder. See file formats below.
Safely eject and restart the R36S
Safely eject the R36S from your computer (right-click → Eject on Windows, or drag to Trash on Mac). Disconnect the USB cable. Restart the R36S. Your new games will appear in the game list for that system.
| System | Folder Name | File Format |
|---|---|---|
| Game Boy Advance | ROMS/GBA/ | .gba |
| Super Nintendo (SNES) | ROMS/SNES/ | .sfc, .smc |
| NES | ROMS/NES/ | .nes |
| Sega Genesis | ROMS/MD/ or ROMS/GENESIS/ | .md, .bin |
| Game Boy | ROMS/GB/ | .gb |
| Game Boy Color | ROMS/GBC/ | .gbc |
| PlayStation 1 | ROMS/PS1/ or ROMS/PSX/ | .bin + .cue, .pbp, .chd |
| Nintendo 64 | ROMS/N64/ | .z64, .n64, .v64 |
| PSP | ROMS/PSP/ | .iso, .cso |
| Sega Master System | ROMS/SMS/ | .sms |
| Atari 2600 | ROMS/ATARI2600/ | .a26, .bin |
.bin + .cue pairs. Keep both files together in the same folder. The .cue file tells the emulator how to read the .bin file. Do not separate them.
The R36S supports compressed formats like .chd for PS1 games, which saves significant storage space. A PS1 game that is 700MB as .bin can be compressed to ~200MB as .chd. For N64, use .z64 (big-endian) format for best compatibility.
