iGameConsole • Retroid Pocket 5
The Sharpest Screen in Handheld Gaming. $539.99. The Absolute Lowest RP5 Price.
The Retroid Pocket 5 exists because screens matter. Not all handheld screens are created equal — and the difference between a 3.5" IPS panel and a 5.5" AMOLED is the difference between squinting at pixels and playing in cinematic quality. True blacks. 500 nits outdoor visibility. 1080p at 401 PPI. 2.5D curved glass edge-to-edge. This is the screen that makes you forget you're holding a handheld. And right now, it starts at $539.99 — the lowest price on any RP5 listing in this store.

📌
Machine Only — No Game Card
This listing is the console only — no pre-loaded MicroSD card. 128GB UFS 3.1 internal storage on clean Android 13. Bring your own ROMs. Install your own emulators from Google Play. Or add a game card from our other listings if you decide you want one later. This page is for buyers who want the hardware at the absolute lowest price.
Why the Screen Is the Reason to Buy the RP5
5.5"
Full Palm Display
199mm wide device. The screen fills your field of vision when held naturally. Zelda's Hyrule stretches horizon to horizon. Game Boy games that once ran on a 2.9" screen now run on 5.5". Every detail of every sprite is visible.
AMOLED
True Black Technology
AMOLED turns off pixels for black. IPS backlights everything uniformly — blacks are grey. On the RP5, the darkness in Castlevania is actual darkness. Shadow of the Colossus shadows are deep and cinematic. The contrast ratio is technically infinite.
500nit
Outdoor Visibility
Most budget handhelds run 300–350 nits. Bright sunlight washes them out. At 500 nits the RP5 remains fully legible in direct outdoor conditions. Gaming on the train, in the park, or on a flight next to a window — the screen holds up.
1080p
401 PPI Sharpness
1080×1920 pixels compressed into 5.5 inches. Text is razor-sharp. GBA pixel art looks intentional, not blurry. PS1 games at 2x resolution look better than they ever did on CRT. The pixel density is higher than most smartphones.
2.5D
Curved Glass Edge
The glass curves at the edge of the screen. Zero bezel gap. The display feels like it runs to the edge of the device. Premium smartphones use this construction. Budget handhelds don't. The RP5 does.
Touch
Full Android Touch
Android 13 touchscreen input. Navigate the home screen, install apps, use Google Chrome, tap through menus. No physical-button-only limitation. The touch layer is phone-grade, not afterthought-grade.

2.5D Curved Glass
The RP5 AMOLED wins on every screen metric against every device in this price tier. No other handheld under $600 ships with a true AMOLED display of this size and brightness.
3 Colors — All $539.99
Black
The AMOLED panel on black is perfect. True black shell, true black display. Zero visual break between device and screen edges at night. Street Fighter II on this setup is cinematic.

Grey
Cloud Strife energy. FF7 grey shell with the AMOLED's vivid color reproduction makes the dark RPG aesthetic land perfectly. The collector's understated choice.

Purple
Pokémon purple on an AMOLED display — the colors pop harder than on any IPS device. RGB joystick halos against purple shell. The most visually striking configuration in the lineup.

What This Screen Looks Like Running Real Games
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
The 5.5" width shows the full draw distance Miyamoto intended. Kokiri Forest feels expansive. On a 3.5" screen it feels like a diorama.
Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
1080p upscaling on a 5.5" AMOLED makes the pre-rendered backgrounds look like watercolors. Midgar never looked this good.
Street Fighter II (SNES)
AMOLED saturates the fighter color palette. Chun-Li's blue, Ken's red, Ryu's white gi — every color is precise, vivid, and deeply saturated.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)
The AMOLED true black makes the dark castle corridors actually dark — not washed-out grey. The candles and torches glow in real contrast. This game was built for this screen.
God of War (PS2)
PS2 running at full speed, upscaled to 1080p on 5.5" AMOLED. The blood and fire visual effects are exactly what active cooling makes possible — no thermal throttle mid-boss.
Pokémon FireRed (GBA)
GBA sprites on 5.5" at integer scale. Every pixel of Charizard is crisp and intentional. The 500 nit brightness means the vibrant GBA palette comes through exactly as designed.

Screen FAQ
Is AMOLED actually that much better than IPS for gaming?
For retro gaming specifically, yes. Most retro games have significant dark content — dungeons, space backgrounds, night scenes. On IPS, dark scenes are washed grey because the backlight is always on. On AMOLED, those pixels turn off. The difference is stark and immediate. Additionally, AMOLED response time is faster, which makes fast-action games like Street Fighter and Mega Man feel sharper and more responsive.
Does 5.5" make it too big to hold comfortably?
The RP5 is 199.2mm wide and 280g. By comparison, a Nintendo Switch Lite is 209mm wide and 275g. The RP5 is actually narrower than the device millions of people hold comfortably every day, and roughly the same weight. The ergonomic grip design distributes the weight across the palm. Extended sessions are comfortable for adult-sized hands.
What happens when I want to add a game card later?
Buy any MicroSD card (up to 1TB supported). Format to FAT32 or exFAT. Load your ROMs. The RP5 has a dedicated MicroSD slot separate from internal storage. Alternatively, check our other RP5 listings where we sell pre-loaded game cards separately.
